Health and Safety

Immunizations
According to California Educational Code, all children entering Bay View are to have proof of record of required immunizations. Parents will have 30 days from the start of school to provide proof. After that period, students must be excluded from school. Students on waivers will be excluded from school once SCCS has determined there has been an outbreak of a disease.

Medications
If your child needs to take any medication while at school, please obtain a form from the school office, which needs to be filled out and signed by your physician. All medications must be in their original prescription container. Over-the-counter medication will also need physician approval and a prescription label on the container. Medication can not be administered without
this form.

Health Services
Bay View has an experienced school health clerk. A district nurse is also available should one be required. Please feel free to contact the health clerk Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s health. You will also be notified should we become aware of any significant health concerns.

Student Accidents
All students accidents are recorded in the office and appropriate first aid measures are administered. Please encourage your child to report any bumps bruises or scrapes to the playground Yard Duty or classroom teacher immediately. Parents will be notified in the event
of a serious illness or accident.

Student Accident Insurance
The school district offers you an the opportunity to enroll your child for student accident insurance at competitive rates through a commercial insurance company. Application forms are sent home during the first week of school and are available through our office. The school
district does not carry accident insurance on your child.

School Safety Plan
Bay View has a safety plan and practices emergency drills throughout the year in preparation. In the actual event of an emergency or natural disaster, all children will be gathered at the outdoor lunch tables where they can be picked up. In the rare event of a tsunami, Bay View will walk to Westlake Elementary School at 1000 High Street, or the First Congregational Church at 900 High Street.
